It’s Sled Island week. For those of you that don’t know what Sled Island is, Sled Island is a Calgary music/film/art/comedy festival June 20th-23rd. I am not big into Stampede; I try to get out of town during that time. Getting to work take double the amount of time, and it seems like all self-respect is tossed out the window. I heard a story about a guy that was getting a spray tan to be ready for Stampede, and he took his wedding ring off, “it’s not cheating, its stampeding.” Plus it is hard enough to get a damn cab in this town.
Sled Island creates a unity in the community that gives you warm fuzzes all over. The amount of people you get to meet, and you get to reconnect with friends that you haven’t seen for a while, and on top of that you are encouraged to ride your bike everywhere and anywhere. The music selection is top notch, the venues are the best Calgary has to offer and the fun is endless.
Here are my picks to check out, don’t let your head explode because there is a buttload for music in this city over the next four days.
