I had the pleasure of guest judging a recent competition at the AVEDA Institute Hair Show Down. Local creatives submitted a video communicating why they were “born to be a hairstylist.” Four local contestants were selected to put together a comprehensive inspired look, which they executed and showed on the runway; the winner of the competition was then gifted a full scholarship to attend the Calgary AVEDA institute. All runner ups were also gifted tuition bursaries for their AVEDA institute education. This event was national and every Aveda institute in Canada participated.
It was an exciting & inspired event, with local and national hairstylists, makeup artists and beauty industry peeps in attendance. Ray Civello, the CEO of AVEDACanada was one of my fellow judges, as well as Anna Conte, Key Makeup Artist for Aveda Canada. The energy was electric, and all the contestants brought their absolute best.
There were a diverse range of looks, but the stand out winner was Elsa Harmariam. Elsa executed an vibrant, colorful exotic look, with bright, fresh makeup and an intricate braid woven into the model’s natural hair. The look was tribal and street chic fused together. She won a full scholarship to the Aveda institue in Calgary! In addition, Mr.Civello doubled all the runner up’s tuition compensation, so they were each offered substantial reductions on the cost of their beauty school education.
Beauty, Nature and community were at the highest vibe at this event! If you are interested in a career in the beauty industry that focuses on the values and ethics of natural cosmetics in addition to cutting edge education, check out the AVEDA insitute Calgary.
