FOR THE RECORD: An Ode An Ode to One of the Greats: Donna Summer 1948-2012

Today we heard of the sad passing of one of music’s greats, after a long battle with cancer.  Donna Summer, a disco diva, was made popular and has remained in our hearts over the years with her ever so popular single (and every broken hearted, strong woman’s anthem) ‘I Will Survive’

Beginning her career in musical theatre, Summer’s has come a long way with her solo career and was a 5 time Grammy winner.  Within the span of her career, she had hit the US Billboard charts consecutively.

Summer’s often used her albums to tell a story, some of rage to riches, some of prostitution and some inspired by the Iconic Marilyn Monroe.  She also took part in the UNICEF concert back in ’79 amongst the likes of The Bee Gees, Rod Stewert, Abba and Olivia Newton- John, to name a few to raise awareness for the world’s children.  Billboard has also named Summer’s the 8th most successful female recording artist in music history.

Her long run in the music scene spanning just over 3 decades has earned her the love and respect from all who became entranced by her incredible vocals, her perseverance and inspired talent.

Donna Summer’s was a legend and will remain in our hearts for lifetimes to come.  You will be missed!
