A few weeks ago I blogged about the importance and benefits of curating a wardrobe. Now, Fashionising.com has written about how to do just that. The story speaks of five steps to curating your wardrobe, from literally cleaning your closet of dust bunnies, to the cruciality of finding a great tailor.
While I don’t feel the need to reiterate what is outlined so very well in the article, I would like to add to a couple of the key points:
Maintenance: I never knew the importance of maintaining leather goods until a couple of years ago when I discovered Apline Shoe Service , located in Kensington. The folks at Alpine can make almost any pair of shoes or handbag last many seasons longer than they otherwise would. They can even match and replace the worn out red bottoms on your Louboutins. I was only turned down once, when I literally snapped a pair of Stella McCartney platform-soled shoes in half. Sad.
Filling in the gaps: I can honestly say that it wasn’t until recently that I understood the importance of going shopping with a plan. It may not be near as much fun spending an afternoon hunting down a perfect fitting crisp white blouse or a Burberry-esque trench, but your closet will be much better for it. Take note of what is missing from your wardrobe just as you would cosmetics or groceries, so that when you do go shopping, you make your purchases with context and purpose.
