VINTAGE POP
Off Interart (5143/45 St-Laurent)
For the record, Montréal is probably one of the most relaxed super centers in Canada. The steady stream of mixed dialects on the streets between the galleries, bakeries and flowing street style in the Mile End area make it one of the most comfortable atmospheres to indulge in. Shopping exists in variety; with music and fun play, vintage cubby holes to boutiques and mannequins tastefully drenched in high-fashion.
POP Montréal International Music Festival, a champion of independence in the arts, walks the fashion walk under the Puces POP umbrella. Vintage POP, the first of the fashion installment is rightfully acclaimed as the ”vintage lover’s dream!” The pop-up event is a showcase of vintage selections for men and women that includes accessories, furniture and eccentric one of a kind scores.
The sweet choices selected by the Puces POP curators date from the 1920s up to 90s grunge and everything in between the vintage style eras of Montréal. In the know vintage hunters and huntresses scour participating vintage spots for picks from Cheap Opulence,New Wave Natives , FAD, Huntclub and YeYe Vintage. Vintage POP also introduced visitors to 6 vintage boutiques also situated in the Mile End.
New kid on the block but far from new to the vintage scene, Citizen Vintage, opened its doors permanently this summer following a successful run of pop up shops by boutique founders Brooke Doyle, Laura Kaluza and Becky Emlaw. Each possessing a seasoned education in the retail industry, the trio would make the decision this year to make their selections of high-waisted denim shorts, silk pattern blouses, one of a kind leather pieces, shoes, and distinct jewelry selections available permanently by placing them in their new location on Saint Laurent.
The Citizen Vintage location is also popular for its in-store performances, while visiting, the Audioblood Media in-store showcase took place featuring Montréal singer JF Robitaille and Toronto based darlings Hands and Teeth and The Balconies. Each set was delightfully engaging as they serenaded shoppers with live acoustic sets.
The Citizen Vintage team are also extremely dedicated and passionate about promoting the inspiration and vision that drives the store; delivering monthly videos under the CitizenTV section of their website. Store employees are also very active with customers over their social media sites on Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook.
Other notable vintage spots in the Mile End include Lost&Found, Annex Vintage, L’Arterie, Local 23 and La(Found)erie.
