CRABAPPLE CLOTHING || AFW S/S 11

Crabapple Clothing Company was the very last show at Alberta Fashion Week spring/summer 2011. On the runway, work and business casual attires seemed to be the main focus for the Marda Loop boutique.

Although the fashion gave off an obvious summer vibe with its repeating flower-patterns and bright hues, the styling of the clothes themselves was a bit of a let down with a couple attires that did not seem to work properly. Even the bright-coloured kitten heels sported by every model did not seem to go with every outfit presented.

In some cases, the lack of prominent heels did not give the models’ legs the attention it deserved. On another instant, some of the outfits seemed to have been put together in a rushed and uncoordinated  way. Whether it was to make a fashion statement or not, the outfit with the white cardigan that was tucked in a black belt and let loose in the front did not make for a polished look.

Crabapple Clothing Company lacked originality in the put-together and presentation of their clothes, although I feel like it is unfair for me to say such a thing as, afterall, this was a boutique show, not  a designer show.

Looking back, a few cute outfits do stand in mind: the flower-printed dress paired with a pale-wash jean jacket and bright red heels was a simple but appealing outfit. The white-lace mini dress worn with a zebra print belt and a shiny red leather jacket was also an outfit that stood out as simple and elegant.

What really made the show memorable was the energetic performance of one of the blonde models who walked the runway like she owned it.  It was delightful to watch someone with such charisma and attitude.
