The threeASFOUR Spring/Summer 11 installation consisted of huge white spiral walls displaying their fashion video “Contours” from laptops laying all over the ground. It was organized chaos I suppose as we waited for the sun to go down to see the videos more clearly, and the models to emerge.
Rumor had it that the backstage area was 1.5 blocks away, and I can’t imagine how the models walked that far wearing garment bags– YES garment bags that zipped from under their feet to their neck. They formed lines around the spiral wall and proceeded to unzip themselves from the bags to reveal the collection all at once before our eyes. Taking away an element of surprise, the models stood before us revealing the entire collection at once while the videos projected onto their white forms.
The collection itself was a futuristic meld of piped spirals, finely hand crafted web-like structures, and altered silhouettes. The construction behind some pieces exemplified true craftsmanship and fine attention to detail. It was nice to feel the line between fashion and art was being blurred.
threeASFOUR produced an innovative showcase of wearable art that will not be forgotten. Trust that I am still dreaming about owning a pair of the United Nude shoes they rocked!!!
Now it’s time for me to manifest one of those outfits into my wardrobe…
