Rachel Mielke has been living a fairytale. That fairy tale started as a hobby and has turned into a successful business attracting attention from such A-list celebrities as Taylor Swift and Drew Barrymore.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Mielke originally studied business, something which allowed her budding jewellery hobby to become a fast growing phenomenon. Picked up by Brett Wilson after a Dragon’s Den appearance in 2006, Hillberg & Berk has gone on to be featured at Oscar gifting lounges, while the who’s who of Hollywood commission personalized pieces to accessorize their already glamorous wardrobes.

On day 3 of Alberta Fashion Week, Hillberg & Berk showed off their latest line of luxury fashion jewellery, aptly named ‘Lalita Deva’ meaning, ‘goddess of power’.The line is an exotically inspired mix of earthy and feminine colours, accented by sterling silver and gold. Make no mistake, with the uniquely opulent jewellery of Hillberg & Burk complimenting your favourite dress, you will feel empowered.

Perhaps the most impressive and pleasantly surprising part of the Hillberg & Berk style is the way in which it utilizes current trends in its lines while using very rare and beautiful materials that put in on the same level as a high priced traditional jeweler. Too often so called “cutting edge jewelry” has the trendy look without the quality, resulting in a look that is simply cheap and gaudy. Even from a quick glance on the runway, the necklaces, bracelets, earrings and charms are obviously well made.

Hillberg & Berk defy the stuffy convential styles of jewellery that are over produced by high-end jewellers. Lalita Deva uses jade, amethyst, sapphire, pearls, and many other rich materials to create investment jewellery that fits with today’s evolving styles.

A few notable styles from their latest collection were the cluster charm necklace, which features a berry like cluster of sparkling baubles and beads and the sterling silver and multi gemstone bracelet, which spotlights a lady like ceramic coral rose nestled between oversized orb shaped stone beads in a variety of colours and finishes.

So the next time you think of treating yourself or your loved one with a memorable present tucked in a little black box, forget the so called “classics” and try out the innovative fashion that is Hillberg & Berk.
