In the pageant world it seems that Canadian babes get overlooked. Miss America is highly publicized and is the ultimate standard for beauty pageants. Canada’s equivalent is Miss Universe Canada; it is about exposing the most talented, warm-hearted, beautiful women of our country.
The competition took place in Toronto, Ontario in June with Elena Sem of Toronto receiving the crown.
Aylar Macky, a bombshell of Calgary, was fortunate enough to experience the ins and outs of the competition. Three years ago she became fully involved in the modeling profession. Macky was born in Iran’s capital Tehran. She moved to Toronto, Ontario at the age of 11 and resided there for nine months before permanently moving to Calgary.
Her first experience with modeling was when she was in Grade 7. The purpose was to help build her self confidence and was a great success. Macky got accepted by Pro Scout, but her family thought it best she wait. Later in Grade 10 Ford Modeling expressed interest in Macky but it was not until she turned 18 she took the leap of faith and pursued her passion.
Her involvement in Miss Universe Canada has enriched her life in numerous ways. One being healthy living; being active, sleeping well and leading a balanced life-style in general is important. The competition represents women whose sizes ranges from 0 – 10 setting the example that beauty is not a one-size fits all formula.
Charity involvement is also a high priority for the pageant. The competition contributes to SOS Children’s Village (http://www.sos-childrensvillages.org/pages/default.aspx) which helps children in developing countries.
Not long ago, there was an event to raise funds for the charitable organization where half the value of a ticket and all the money raised at the auction was donated.Macky believes, “When you give with one hand, you will receive with the other.” It is a continuous cycle where all benefit.
Being a part of Miss Universe Canada has allowed Macky to meet lots of new people, extending her network. She recalls, “I got the biggest smile award in Grade 5.” Not a surprise, since her smile is contagious.
