It is easy to assume an accessories line would fail to compete amongst full-fledged collections, but at Alberta Fashion Week, Knittles captivated the audience.
The luxury knit line punctuated the second day of Alberta Fashion Week with sumptuous scarves, fingerless gloves, shrugs, two-in-one pieces, and what Calgary Fashion likes to call knit armor. The creative duo presented fashion week goers with an extensive array of products, perfect for Calgary’s frigid weather, but also avant garde pieces that challenged our notions of traditional, cold-weather accessories.
The collection started with typical seasonal wear, gloves and scarves of soft, chunky wools, silk and alpaca mix yarns accessorized with handmade coconut, ceramic and wooden buttons, to more complex fashion-forward pieces such as their deconstructed sweater. Knittles knit armor, such as the helmet-like scarf combo, were fresh additions that could be incorporated easily into any wardrobe.
Just when we thought Knittles presented all they could offer in their genre, they pushed the boundaries of winter adornment to new level by introducing a rope, chain mail, knit dress that could accentuate any plain dress or tunic.
Knittles was fresh, exciting, and has potential to grow their already distinctive brand. Alberta Fashion Week organized Wednesday’s designer mash-up to be interactive, and Knittles’ collection was hard not to reach out and touch.
